An alicorn prince that Celestia announced as her successor. He trained with Celestia in the eye of the public for many years before he was deemed worthy of the throne, yet the year his coronation was to be held, Princess Luna gave birth to a blood heir to the throne: Her daughter, Partly Cloudy. Due to this upset, there was a schism among the populace, those favoring the true born heir, and those favoring Celestia's chosen successor. During this tumultuous time, to end the debate between these two loyalist factions, Celestia made the sacrifice of airing her most well kept secret: Starry Night is her true born son, and his father is none other than King Sombra. After this declaration, a third faction was created in Equestria, those who opposed Starry Night for being the blood of evil. Celestia retired from public view after this announcement, leaving Luna as acting regent. During this time, Luna kept teaching both Starry Night and her daughter, and left the decision up to the two of them, hoping they could rule together as she and Celestia once did.

When Starry Night has his accident and is no longer able to see, he falls into a great depression that is only worsened by the publics response. They demanded he step down as leader and allow his cousin, Partly Cloudy, to ascend the throne, in spite of the fact that she abdicated willingly. This public backlash against him for something he could not change slowly turned him into Total Eclipse, the iron fisted ruler he is known as today. A strange masked pony appeared one day by his side, and it is during this time that the people first saw Eclipse open his eyes again, though they were forever changed. The beautiful blue eyes he used to have were now gone, replaced by strange, glowing pink eyes. Though Total Eclipse is a feared ruler, Equestria under his rule is undoubtedly peaceful. Its an unprecedented time of calm and bounty for pony kind, and foreign relations are better than they ever were, seeing many formerly imprisoned creatures released to their people, and many criminals rehabilitated.

Luna and Fluer de Lis' daughter, quite a bit younger than Starry Night. She grew up constantly surrounded by strange rumours and people who wanted to control the outcome of her adulthood. This led to her becoming something of a flighty child, constantly fleeing her chaperones and escaping the palace. Her cousin Starry Night, in spite of the fact that she thought he SHOULD hate her, would always come to her rescue in her times of need. Often he would comfort her about those trying to support or abjur her, telling her she could do whatever she wanted to do. When she came of age, she formally abdicated the throne to Starry Night, and remained in the palace for some time simply to help him. She decided finally what she wanted to do with her life, which was to see the world outside of Equestria, and though Starry Night initially was hesitant to let her go, he decided to relent as long as her first foray was with him. Unfortunately, disaster struck when they were traveling through the dragon lands, and assassins came for them. During the ensuing battle, Starry Night protected his cousin valiantly, but suffered a grave injury to his eyes, rendering him blind. The shock of the attack changed Partly Cloudy forever, and so she went into hiding with the help of her cousin.

A mysterious masked pony that appeared by Total Eclipse's side one day and never left. They are his right hand pony, and seem to always be on some secret mission or another for Eclipse. No one has ever seen their face, and they are said to weild dual colored magic, a rarity almost never seen before.
